Okay, this has been happening more and more and more lately and I'd like some opinions on it. The question in question being do you allow your work to be posted on other people's blogs and private websites?

See, up until now it didn't really bother me to give people permission to use my pics on their site (with credit obviously) but I've been asked about it so much lately (seriously, look at the comments on my page! D: ) I'm sort of not sure what to do.

The way I see it is as long as its for a non profit non corporate use and they give full credit and link to my gallery I honestly don't mind. I suppose its publicity in a way, and at least they're asking. But there's been so many of them lately I'm almost tempting just to put a general note in my journal saying YES you can use it as long as credit is there, just to save me writing the same comment over and over again.

At the same time though I know a lot of you don't like your work being used, and this makes me doubt whether I should be letting these strangers (who never seem to speak brilliant English) use my stuff.

So what's your stance on the subject? Should I let them or should I offer a bit more restraint?

I said no... much like a lot of the other artists that have been asked. If one person breaks the wall so to speak then it'll get out of hand! They will keep taking liberties... that is purely my opinion however

Wow, you are getting a lot of requests.

I've had a think about it, and changed my mind since I wrote about it in my own journal... they're just kids and they're not making a profit, so if it were my own characters I wouldn't mind them using it - the problem is most of my work is commissioned, so that makes it more difficult.

I think it should be ok for them to use our art as long as they don't butcher our pictures with too much quick editing, and the credit must be on the image, so the works don't become well-known pictures on the internet that nobody knows the original source of.

what i've done is seperate a few of my drawings... the ones that arent my characters or anyone elses and told the people they can use those, that way i can see which sites are using the ones i've told them to use, or the ones that i havent given permission to use... so yeah

I have a similar policy as you - they can use my artwork, as long as they don't alter it in any way, for non-profit, and always credit me and link back to me - unfortunelty, all these pic collectors that fill their blogs don't get our rules (they pretty much suck at english the lot of them), or don't bother to read them. Easiest way is to say no, but your stuff is still gonna be stolen even so. *shrug* It's a catch 22.

I say no all the time even if they give credit because you get nothing out of it and if you say yes even once then more and more will ask. plus it will be seen on other web sites and its not the same as seeing it here from the true artist!

I did some work for people on a role play site I go on, and let them use the images but only on that site. Other people I do work for want RP characters too, and I allow them to have the pictures on just one site. Iunno, it's a bit of a dodgy subject. I mean... you can never tell if people are being honest and giving you credit or not =/ if it really worries you, then put more restraints on to put your mind at ease. Maybe a general message in your journal would help, if you're sick of answering all those questions.
